Preparing to move can be an exciting time in your life. However, it can also be one of the most hectic times as well. There is so much to prepare for and so many tasks to achieve. You are sandwiched between moving on to bigger and better things and leaving your comfort zone behind. You can de-stress a ton by putting together a plan and staying on track.
Write a Task List
Write down your tasks for the day. Get in the habit of writing down all of your thoughts, tasks and plans before you embark on completing them. This will help you move tasks from your mind to taking the leap towards action. Especially in relation to moving, often times we fixate on things that cannot actually be done right away, but by creating a written list, you can more easily prioritize.
Purge Your Home
One word: declutter. You know those boxes that have been sitting in your basement for years untouched. You know that if you move them to your new home, they will probably remain in the same place ten years from now. Instead of stressing yourself out with arranging to move them, you can choose to drop them at your local charity or throw them out. Either way you need to get rid of the excess somehow. Make things easier on yourself and sort through it.
Keep Important Items Together
This seems like a simple way to de-stress, but in reality, many fail to do this. Get in the habit of keeping all of your important phone numbers and task lists in one place so that they can easily be referenced during the move. You don’t want to have to search the Internet or in an already packed box to find that one number or contact that you need. Do yourself a favor and keep organized.
Delegate Tasks Effectively
Whatever project or task that is required, be sure to delegate appropriately. If the basement needs to be packed up and taken outside to the moving truck, assign a team to that. If the house needs to be cleaned before new owners move in, delegate that task to another group. Work smarter, not harder.
Take Time for Yourself
In the heat of moving, it may seem difficult to take time out for yourself. However, this is gravely important. Set aside some time from all of your moving tasks and take the dog for a walk or go to the gym for an hour. This will not only refresh you to continue working, it will ensure that your life contains that ever-important balance component.
